Activities for Parents/Grandparents/Providers to set up at home to support our Montessori philosophies:

  1. Set up a playroom with a shelf. The shelf can have 10 trays or baskets (maximum) containing 10 different activities - example: puzzles, art blocks, etc.
  2. Expect your child to put all the activities away in the same places as you set them up.
  3. Switch the activities about once a month.
  4. Give your child a table to set his/her own real dishes for his/her lunch.
  5. Give you child a small pitcher to use to pour their own water at lunch.
  6. Give your child a hand sweeper and let them sweep their own table after eating.
  7. Give you child an environmentally friendly spray to wipe their own table after eating.
  8. Set up a reading chair and a basket of books. Expect your child to read (look at books) alone for at least 5 minutes a day to start.
  9. Set up a snack shelf in your kitchen at your child's level. Let them choose their own snack.
  10. Keep a plant and a watering can, with a small amount of water in it, at your child's level. Offer this job once they are ready.
  11. Keep a bucket and sponge in your garage for your child. Offer them a chance to wash your car!
  12. Give your child their own toothbrush and toothpaste. They can do this alone! Give them a chance and a time to try once a day!
  13. Set up a small dish washing station for your child (outside if you want) and let them wash their lunch/snack dishes. All this requires is a wash bin with soapy water, a wash bin with clear water, and a drying rack.
